Unhappy Hurt my back...

I got out of the car funny this morning and wrenched my back. I've taken a handful of ibuprofen for the pain, but it hasn't helped much. The pain is in my lower back around the pelvis area, mostly on the right, with occasionaly shots of pain down my right thigh.

Anyone have any suggestions? Exercises? Postures? Anything?

Hi Azuremoon-

Sorry about your bad luck. I had this kind of pain after I hurt myself wrestling the baby out from behind a chair. The doctor said that I had a bulging disk. I ended up going to physical therapy for a few weeks. they showed me some stretching exercises that helped alot. I would call the doctor if you are not better soon.

Thank you so much, Stacy. I'll keep that in mind if it doesn't improve soon. I've been keeping cold compresses on it and that seems to help. Also, laying down helps, too. That should make work interesting tomorrow.

Ice on the area for 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off. I also sit at a desk all day and take a break about every 30 minutes, just stand up and stretch or walk around. You can stand about arms length from a wall or a counter and place both hands on it firmly, slowly bend and stretch your back, very slowly. It should feel good and not hurt.

Also try to remember to sit straight with your legs not crossed, good posture really helps.

If its still sore tonight, do the ice and alternate with heat, 20 minutes of each ending with the ice. That has helped knock the pain for me.

Also something like aleve or naproxin helps with that kind of pain better.

I've suffered with a weak back and this has all been suggested to me by a chiropractor -- they do help and they are gentle.

Get to feeling better soon.

Debi

Thanks for the suggestion, Debi. I stayed in bed all day yesterday to see if that would help. Back at the office today and I can't stand for long at a time. Sitting is bothersome, too, but better than standing. I've got ice for my back but not heat.

Luckily, the office is closed next week so I'll be able to take advantage of the time and do a proper ice/heat treatment.

Thank you again for your suggestions.
