Question How Much Artificial Sugars?

I am wondering if I am slightly overdoing the Splenda, and other AS's, which could be stalling me?

I drink quite a bit of coffee throughout the day (hey I live in Scotland and it's frickin' cold! I need the hot bevs!) but try to only use like 1/2 splenda packet during the day. When I started adding up my totals on fitday, I am finding that I am going through about 4-5 splenda packets a day, plus maybe a diet soda or two (more asparatame) plus the SF jello that I generally have daily (ditto asparatame.)

Anybody else find they had to cut back on AS's to break through a stall? I just gave up cream (which was hard!!) and I can't imagine cutting back on the coffee!

I'd love to hear anybody else's experiences with this??

This is definately a "Your mileage may vary" thing - some people could loose quite well on the amount of artifical sweeteners - some can't. Aspartame seems to be the worse culprit for most people - I'd suggest cutting back on the treats with the aspartame in it, and stick with the splenda coffee for a bit and see how it goes.

Another way to cut out aspartame jell-o: Make your own.

Don't know which of these products you might not have in Scotland, but I'll post this anyway-

Unflavored gelatin- I use two packets Knox
For flavor, a packet of unsweetened Kool-aid
8-10 packets Splenda
Whatever the recipe calls for in terms of water, I think it's a cup hot and a cup cold

This makes lovely Splenda jello, so to escape aspartame. I used to drink Diet Coke everyday and after giving them up for a month, I let myself have one the other day and found it tasted gross to me. Splenda is just so much better.

Good luck!

Hi Kellie,

I'll bet it's colder here..and gently snowing at the moment!

I am a Brit in exile. I always bring hermisitas with me from England. They are saccharine, not aspartame like candarel. Personally I find artificial sweeteners make little difference to me but I know they do to other people. I didn't know you could get splenda in Britain? Oh well.

Good luck.

P.S. My cousin who is doing atkins in England buys tins of unsweetened rhubarb. Only one supermarket's own brand is nearly carb free - I think it's sainsbury's. It's grat with a bit of powdered sweetner on it - just to give you a change from jelly!

All the best,

Robert
