Default Steak-Ums replacement ok ?

Hey all,

Well I read the Steak-Ums thread and I used to eat those years ago. So I went to my grocery store here in the Bay Area (Safeway) and they didnt have them, however they had something else. I grabbed one so I can relay the ingredients to the Atkins Experts to tell me if these are acceptable or not. BTW, im on my second week of induction now if that matters.

Please let me know as im itching to cook these tonight but waiting on feedback for the "OK" or the "Put them things the hell away."

I haven't been able to find Steak-Ums here in Houston either, but I found a different brand at our Randalls store (subsidiary of Safeway)...checking your label to what I bought, they look exactly the same.

Fire up that skillet and enjoy my friend!

If that is the case that is awesome, these things are like $1.99 for 7 sandwich steaks. Thank you.

When I first saw them in the store, I bought the last 4 boxes they had. Between non-lc'ing hubby and me, they were all gone within 2 days!

I fry them up, drain the grease, sprinkle with garlic salt and melt some provalone, with a side of eggs of course.. Also I shredded some and after cooking and patting dry I made some broccoli, diced it up, and covered with shredded cheddar, YUMM, my own beef and broccoli

LOL ... Steak-Umms are an insult to REAL Philly cheesesteaks (I'm a Philly boy), but they do work really well on this diet. LOL.

Plus, they are much much cheaper (especially the off-brands) than buying chip steak.

You didn't list ingredients. Just look for any sugars or starches. A little won't hurt you, but if you are eating 5-6 servings a day it could add up.

I have some steakums in the freezer. I used to love having them on an egg sammie, the only trouble was the grease (made the bread soggy) I bought them, but havn't really used them for anything yet. Maybe I'll try coming up with a philly cheese steak salad Minus onions and lite on cheese though

Im sorry for not listing that. The only ingredient it lists is beef. No other words, just beef.

If it's just beef, then they are perfectly acceptable to eat.

I'm with TrainerDan that Steak-Ums are nothing like real Philly cheesesteaks (gosh, I miss Pennsylvania at times like this!) but they're great in their own right. I fry mine up in a little olive oil, drain the grease if I'm feeling energetic, add a small can of tomato sauce and a splash of worcestershire. Salt and pepper it to taste, then let it all heat up and you've got a cheesesteak with sauce. I eat it plain, sometimes adding a slice of provolone, but it might be good on a salad too. I'm not big on meat in my salad.

My new favorite way with Steakums is in beef broth. Missing a hot cup of soup, I fry up pieces of steakums and just add them to a hot cup of beef broth. With a nice size salad it makes a very satisfying lunch. I love 'em.
