Thumbs up last nights 60 minutes (CBS) or something...

the show with Leslie Stahl - flipped over and saw they were discussing diets and had Roberta Flack on - she is getting injections of something or other all through her abdomen to lose inches (from France, I think) anyway she is also working out like a gym rat. But the next piece was what was so interesting - Jamie Lee Curtis was on with Christie Brinkley and they were discussing how the print trades do such a disservice to women by not admitting the photo shoots are airbrushed and modified BIGTIME! Jamie Lee had a photo of her NOW - in 'underwear' and no makeup, and hey she looks like most soccer moms or so! It was an interesting piece. They then showed how they 'skinny' people digitally and even 'improved Andy Rooney's eyebrush (not a typo - it is too heavily forested to be called a brow!) and poor Christie contorted into jeans that she couldn't breathe in...

So maybe we can all sign up for 'airbrushing' away the pounds??? LOL

Glad we are all here making improvements this way!

Since i started in art school, i can't even begin to tell you how much you can alter a photograph or digital image using photoshop or another imaging program. Anyone can clear up skin, remove birthmarks, smooth cellute, etc.... pretty scary... in a way i think it does give ordinary people (who don't understand that such programs exist) a false sense of 'reality'... now when i flip through magazines, i just roll my eyes at what they do... personally, i find it refreshing to see real people in ads, or on television now...

Especially young girls who think that this is how those models really look and, therefore, how they should look as well.

I'm with you, Lisa...I have a nine year old daughter who is already referring to herself as fat (compared to Britney Spears etc). Lots of girls in her 4th grade class are already on diets, and she's recently started trying to emulate my 'diet'.

I'm honestly not sure how to handle this, as she's a perfectly normal sized child, with a good and healthy activity level. I reassured her, but did tell her that most snack foods are terribly bad for us, and it's always best to choose healthy foods and leave the cake etc for special occasions.

Ever have a look at school menus? URK! We talked about making best choices there and packing lunches so that she can eat the things that make her hair shine, her skin glow, and all her muscles and bones grow to their potential....but burgers, hotdogs and pizza along with fries is pretty common on the menu here. Not to mention "breakfast days" where lunch is french toast with syrup and fruit!
