From the atkin's site: Why does doing Atkins cause bad breath?
"Well, actually, it causes ketone breath. Ketones, which impart a sweetish smell, do not cause bad breath so much as a different breath odor. In any case, this condition is likely to last only as long as you are doing the Induction phase of Atkins. Try drinking more water, or every now and then chew a little fresh parsley. And, on the positive side, it is proof that your body has switched to the alternative metabolic pathway of burning fat for fuel."
I have also heard on other sites that the smell isn't really caused by the excretion of ketones, it is caused by protien overload. Either way, it is supposed to go away after a few weeks. There was this one guy someone knew that stunk so BAD that no one could stand to be around him. It wasn't just the breath, it was all over B.O. and this was a clean guy, it was just the diet. It does different things to different people I guess. I haven't had this problem personally, (I guess, I haven't smelled myself anyway) but I chew sugarfree gum when I'm out around others, at least the saliva flow keeps any problems at bay.
