Unhappy I'm Baaaack! Gained 5 lbs. on Neanderthin

...I know I said I'd be doing this a month, but gaining back weight is NOT what I had in mind!

Neanderthin Pros: Cleared up my head, could eat whenever I wanted and felt really no denial at all.

Cons: weight gain (for me anyway),costly...I mowed through the meat!...and very inconvenient.

I ate no fruit, but ate a sensible quantity of nuts...maybe a handful a day.

I am not willing to go another 3 weeks on experimentation if I gain any more weight back. No. Negative. NOT happening....PERIOD!

So...I'm back in the CAD fold...Live and Learn!

Hi Steeved,
What a bummer that you gained. It doesn't sound like you were eating out of line though. Is it possible that you were putting on muscle? I am new to the CAD Forum and so I am not familiar with your situation. I do know that we don't eat nearly the ammount of protein on CAD that we do on Atkins or Neaderthin. It is possible that your body is responding to the extra protein and bulking up your muscles. How do you feel on Neaderthin? Was your energy good? Does the weight feel like water? It does not seem likely to me that it is water weight because of the very low carb nature of that plan. It also seems odd that you would gain if you are only eating a handful of nuts a day with meat and a little fruit. I bet you it's muscle.

Talking Whether I gained muscle...

...fat or granite, it doesn't matter, I'm not going to give any more ground! But I am going to be more "paleo" on my RMs...this is a very valuable lesson I learned!

I learned that I feel better eating "whole foods" I buy myself. From now on, my RM's will include healthful carbs...i.e. fruits and nuts, rather than the spree of processed junk I had on a daily basis before.

Don't get me wrong, once a week I'll splurge on a "junky" meal as a necessary escape valve (the gators have to be fed too after all!!)...but 9 times out of 10, it's going to be filled with "good" fat and lots of it, plus fresh veggies and fruit!!

I came away from this with a definite education!

Thanks for the "something to think about" though!!

Steve

A Paleo CAD sounds the way to go for you. All that sugar was clogging your brain.

Hi Steeved--Wow, that 5 lbs. must have set some kind of record! Too bad that 5 won't "get lost" as quickly as it "gets found", huh? I've been thinking a lot about the healthier carbs, too. Some days I have something "junky" just because I can. You've probably got a great idea, about the fruit and nuts for your carbs. I'm going to add "get creative with the goodies" to my goal list....

Welcome back!

Very interesting to read about your experience, and I too am one who wants to head toward less junk in the RM's.

Glad you are sticking around.

Talking Thanks for your responses!

I have listened to Zule the Great & Powerful!

But since I don't have ruby slippers, I'll do the next best thing and Neanderthin my RMs (at least 6 out of 7 days in the week ).

The answer was so obvious I had to laugh at myself. I'll tell everyone how it goes!
