Question too good to be true?lol

Hi all,

My name is Jamie and I am 24 years old. I have seen plenty of people have success on this way of eating however I almost feel it's a tad too good to be true, although I know it obviously isn't. I feel like eating no carbs is somehow going to backfire...I have a weird way of thinking. I feel like not counting calories is a big no no. I desperately want to lose about 40 pounds and be an active mommy to my almost 3 year old daughter.

Did anyone ever feel this way before starting and now are losing weight? I am going to give it 2 weeks to see what happens I just have so many emotions running through my mind. Thanks.

-Jamie

That "too good to be true" feeling continues, especially when you're losing weight while chowing down on a ribeye.

If you have fears about the diet your best bet is to educate yourself about it.

Default Oh yes ma'am

I felt the same way. No, I'm worse than you: I have always been a militant proponent of a so-called "balanced" diet, with at least 5 servings of "good" carbohydrates every day. And what did I have to show for it? Overweight, high blood pressure, depression, and lousy HDL and fasting blood sugar. I did my homework, and came to the conclusion that my problem was insulin, and that the fix could be low carb eating.

My goal was to feel better and get my blood pressure and my bloodwork numbers (primarily low hdl) under control. I decided to just change what I eat, and not worry about weight loss at this point. I have lots to lose, but I figured that I needed to do it one step at a time. First, what I eat. Then later, how much.

I have been low carb for four months now. The result? My cravings vanished in a week or so. My mood, energy and concentration level is way up. And my blood pressure has plummeted. Somewhere along the line I've lost the puffiness in my face, and my skin and hair is looking better than ever. Weight? I don't know, I haven't weighed myself, but getting dressed in the morning sure is a lot more fun than it used to be! And just today I retired two pairs of pants that have become ridiculously baggy.

Phase two of this effort, after I get the results of my bloodwork at the end of Sept, is weight loss. We will see. I'm hoping that I will see improvements in my HDL. Everyone says I will. And then I hit the scales.

Hope this helps!

I don't 'fear' a way of eating...which this is, not a diet. And I have educated myself very well, just was asking if anyone else has the same feelings as I do.

I think we've probably all felt it, as it's so "against the grain" as far as what we've been told over and over again for years.

My husband and I have lost a combined total of 220lbs (100 for me, 120 for him) since November last year. No doubt in my mind now! Our health has improved significantly, numbers are perfect if not LOW, we're never sick, and feel AMAZING. Couldn't ask for anything more.

Ok..well...maybe to be a size 6. I *could* ask for that

i was the same, I was a former sucess at weight watchers however I went back to old habits so I needed a diet that said no. also I knew a few people who did atkins and I thought the same as you how can such a diet work.

well it does. im just finished induction and down 15 lbs and already this week Im down another 3lbs on top of that and I feel great, loads to go though. whne you look at it from the outside initally you are dropping bread and potato based products and eating real food(ie no processed foods).

I agree with this last statement here... "you are dropping bread and potato based products and eating real food..." not to mention anything with sugar. Basically anything that has to be "manipulated in some way" in order to be edible those are the things that I have cut out. Meats and vegetables pretty much hit my plate as is with the exception of a little heat and or seasonings...some other things I have to watch a bit more carefully...but I've low carbed off and on for over ten years now.. it works...BUT you definitely have to find a way to ensure this is not a "quick" fix for weight loss...but a permanent way of eating so that your success is not short lived.

I love it, it works..and in my opinion it's not too good to be true... it simply is....

And just remember, this is not a 'no carb' diet, it is a low carb diet.

Amen to that. You'll be getting good carbs from vegetables, and later on from small amounts of fruits, nuts, and beans.

It will backfire if you stop doing low carb and binge, eating everything in sight to make up for everything you've sacrificed.. Ask me how I know

Best of luck to you!

I love that 'too good to be true' feeling! And having reached my goal I'm still enjoying my food and am not tempted (so far - am still vigilant...) by the kinds of carby foods I used to think of as treats. It's fab

Good luck with this new way of eating
