Default Pesco-Vegetarian on Atkins

I don't eat beef, pork, or chicken, but I do eat fish. If I go through induction with just fish and eggs, will I die of mercury poisoning?

Thanks!!!

Nope. You will be just fine!! The fish that have mercury are mackeral, swordfish, fresh tuna steaks, shark other deep sea fish. They are all fine to eat. I just know in pregnancy they tell you to avoid or limit these to one serving a week or less. Most other fish have no traces of it. Goodluck with Atkins btw. I am a veggie that is eating seafood due to doctors orders since I am staying LC while pregnant so I can tell you from experience it can totally be done np!

Hi Kyrie,

I don't eat most meats either, and fish is one of my favorite LC foods. I eat a can of tuna almost everyday for a snack or meal. If you eat cheese, try melting it on tuna for a breadless tuna melt. It's what I eat for lunch almost every day. Salmon is also another of my favorite dishes (although can be pricey). Being a vegetarian doesn't mean you have to be limited on your LC diet

Thanks! I've made a list of fish high in mercury, and am keeping my distance from them.

And thanks so much for the veggie link!

I have had to eat a lot of seafood lately and the one fish I have found that tends to not tire me out and taste too fishy is Tilapia. It's really mild and it's thin fillets so they cook really quickly. You can also season them many ways and it always comes out good. Salmon is another good one to try to get in once a week.

Couple simple ways to fix talapia are:

cajun style-
Season a fillet on both sides with a little garlic powder and cajun seasoning and fry in 1 tsp olive oil/1tsp butter (the olive oil keeps the butter from burning) Fry over medium heat until it will flake apart and is golden brown.

baked-
spray a sheet (pretty good size) of aluminum foil with pam. Add your fillet and season with a shake of lemon pepper, dill, salt, pepper and a tiny bit of paprika. Fold over the foil and fold over each of the three edges to make a little pouch. Leave some room for it to expand while baking. Bake for about 20 minutes at 350 degrees.

Best of luck with your induction!!

Hi Kyrie!

Welcome to the forum! I am a vegetarian ( no fish though) on Atkins and did induction just fine! I did up the veggies though and ate more than the 3 C.

Some other things that have helped me after induction were veggie burgers and those types of products.

Best wishes!
