Default Water weight and lasix

Hi everyone!

First time posting a message and its a question. I've been stalled for the last couple weeks (and really fustrated) the doctor has prescribed lasix a water pill. I'm just curious as to how much water I will loose and how do I keep it off? Its a 40mg pill that I'll take once a day for three days....Thanking you in advance.

Paula

Hi and welcome to the forum!! I take Lasix daily and I have taken other medications because I have a swelling condition in my brain. When you first start taking Lasix, it is usual to drop as much as four pounds in a day or two. However, for people like me, who take it all the time it does not have that affect. It is just water weight anyway so it doesn't have much to do with actual weight loss. If you are really retaining water severely, your doc may have prescribed it to help you feel better and less puffy. But in the big picture, it will not affect your weight loss one way or the other. You just have to pee a lot. Did he prescribe potassium with it? If not, you may want to supplement with potassium because Lasix will wash it out. Good luck to you! Cindi

Thanks Cindi,

you've pretty much answered my questions. It's just water weight, not actual fat loss. I'll probably still end up taking them over the weekend when I'm close to the washroom.

It does seem thou that I'll be defeating the purpose of loosing the weight, if I can easliy put it back on again within drinking a glass of water. Any suggestions as to how to keep it off.

Thanks again.

* for two days I've been trying to find answers on the internet regarding lasix and it only took fifteen minutes to get an answer on this site.

Got to love it. Low carb all the way!
