Default equipment question

I want to get a cheap but good quality weight bench that will take up as little space as possible when not in use. Any recommendations?

Also, my 10 lb dumbbells are almost outgrown What weight did/do you lift after 10 lbs?

And, I got the glutamine tablets 1gram each. Any idea how much/when to take?

thanks!!!

I have just bought a new small, cheap, but good bench : Weider Pro 125.
Here is : http://www.iconfitness.com/cgi-bin/...9&prrfnbr=99654
For me to be adjusted (flat, incline, decline) was important.
As of dumbbells. I used 12 lbs after 10 lbs - 15 lbs (50% up from 10) was too fast increase for me.

For your dumbbells, there are magnets that are called PlateMates ... sold in 1.25 lbs. ... they will help you when an increase of 5 lbs. might be too tough.

For a bench, I know I have seen a folding one before. I forget the manufacturer, but they are around.

Glutamine ... I like 5g post workout and 5g before bed.
Bulk powder is cheaper than caps if you decide to continue with glutamine supplementation. It is good stuff!

Thanks for the link Galadriell. That bench looks really nice and its on sale and its practically my b-day so I think I'll have to get it.

Dan you're right 10g a day is expensive, think I'll get my glut back to the gym and get the powder. Surely an over-priced source but I'm hurting. Do you use it after you do cardio also?

I don't think you can get away with just 1 set of DB at a time because different exercises would require different weights - e.g. what you can curl is much less than what you can bench press, and both are probably less than what you would be using for squats/deadlifts (assuming only DB and no BB).

as far as weight increments go, if platemates are too expensive, you can always fashion your own with duct tape and fishing weights <G>

I wish I'd seen a bench like the one that Galadriell posted before I bought mine! I made the mistake of buying one that has those posts up by your head for barbell bench presses. Those dang posts are always getting in my way and I don't think that I'll ever use them.

And I'm very excited to hear about PlateMates. I'm definitly finding that 10 lbs is too light and 15 lbs too heavy for some things. The only major sporting goods store in my town does not carry 8 or 12 lb weights and I was dreading paying shipping & handling to order some, but the PlateMates sound like they'll solve my problem.

Thanks, all -- I learn new things every day here.

nawchem,
if you like the bench I recommended, you might buy it even more cheaper in sporting good stores, if you have one nearby. (I bought mine for $65, and because it was in a nice box, we could put into our car - no shipping cost.)
I am sure San Diego is full of these kind of stores:-)
