Type I diabetics do not manufacture sufficient insulin and are insulin dependant-usually from youth. Type II diabetics form from insulin resistance, weight gain, and a few other health problems. It is also called adult onset diabetes (although kids can and are developing it) and can be diet and exercise controlled. The body continues to produce insulin, but there are difficulties in utilization in which medication and/or diet are necessary to control insulin resistant cells. As Rosebud said, LC diets can help with both types-by lowering the amount of insulin needed in type I or many times eliminating the need for meds and insulin in type II.
