Thumbs down low carb choc bars with malitol (Newi)

Hello,
I'm not really new to all this, I've failed on this diet quite a few times, this go I'm doing better. My problem is I used to enjoy a few glasses of wine at the weekend and put on every pound I'd lost in the weekend. I've finally got through a weekend without messing it up, (It's been 3 months)

I have a word of warning on low carb bars, I've been fine with atkins bars, but tried other low carb chocolate, and I've been sooooooooo ill. Although I only had one 50g bar my stomach sounded like a jacuzzi!!
They have a warning on excessive eating, I know, but one bar is surely not excessive. Is it just me?? I'm really annoyed cos that stuff tasted good!! I have had my gall bladder out, does that make you more susceptible to this side affect, it does cut out one step of the digestive breaking down process. Anyone found anything nice without malitol?

it isn't the point that one bar is excessive - it is the sugar alcohols, and the cravings - these may not stall you,but it is still causing an effect in your body. Maybe trying to go cold turkey on the wine and the chocolate will kill the cravings you have? Just an idea.

Libby,

Many people have the same effect from eating Maltitol. You might want to check the following website, which has some good info about Maltitol and it's effects:

http://www.nomaltitol.com/

There is a GREAT chocolate bar called ZCarb bars that you can get at Wal-Mart and various other places. They use Inulin - which not only gives it the same taste as chocolate, but the same texture also!! They come in Milk Chocolate, Milk Chocolate with Almonds, Milk Chocolate with Peanut Butter, Dark Chocolate, Dark Chocolate with Soy Crisp, and Dark Chocolate with Macadamia Nuts. They haven't stalled me, my wife, or my son - and they have Zero net carbs and 158 Calories.

I personally found one without malitol. Didn't seek it out, just happened that when I started my diet that I bought one's without. I got mine at Costco...they are called Zcarb. They're like a peanut butter cup in a thin candy bar. They taste very good and don't cause the runs like the others do. But I still think they can stall you. It has for both me and my hubby. They're ok for a once in a while sweet....definately better than having a HC item....but be forewarned that you could stall. On the other hand, watch out for Carbrite candy. While is truly very good tasting, more than one bar will give you the runs for sure. Of course if you're having the other kind of problem, maybe they are just what you need!

oops didn't read the last post....

They did stall us though...so you'll probably just have to check it our yourself...everyone is different.
