Default My second shot at Atkins, this time will be a success!

Hi everyone!

I first tried Atkins in about 1999, before net carbs, to try to lose about 10 lbs. What I now think was the lactose in a medication I was taking kept me from going into ketosis, and it was too hard and I gave up and ended up losing the weight by exercising more often.

I kept it off, for the most part, but it started creeping back on, and then some, after I was placed on a drug notorious for weight gain this past September. Since then, I've gained 18 lbs and I had already gained about 10 or 15 while I was sick.

So, suddenly I have stretch marks everywhere and no weight loss regimen I've ever tried before is working. I tried WW for about three months and lost 5 lbs, but then I gained it back. And I was starving all the time.

A good friend and my boyfriend convinced me to give Atkins another try. Both are extremely supportive (my friend is going through induction with me again!). I'm on day 4 and this hasn't been painful at all. I'm exercising and I feel pretty good. I'm in ketosis too and I'm confident I'm going to lose weight.

Yay!

I love to cook, so I look forward to experimenting with Atkins-friendly variations on recipes I already make or on new recipes.

Hi and welcome! You're really lucky to have the support of your b/f and friend! That makes the transition far nicer.

Expect the weight to come off slowly, since those medications can be really stubborn. But even so, this is still a great WOE (way of eating) and at least you'll be enjoying every bite. Sure beats starving on WW!

Enjoy!

Thanks for the welcome!

As long as the weight comes off and I'm not hungry, that'll be enough to keep me on the plan!

An added bonus (for me) is that the ketogenic diet -- which is very close to Atkins -- is used to control seizure disorders in children. Since my medications are for a seizure disorder, I'm hoping this plan will keep me stable, along with my medications (which aside from making me gain, are working great).

I learned to journal my food on WW and it's kind of a pain, but it's a good way to keep track of everything. I've been using the atkinscenter.com site, but it seems like everyone here uses fitday. I'll have to look into that.
