Default HELP! Induction and haven't lost a pound

This is the second time I'm doing Atkins and I lost 14 lbs. in two weeks the first time I did it. This time, I'm in ketosis. Turning those meto stix dark purple. I've been faithful to a fault. I was 170 when I started, and I still am. This may not sound like that much, but I'm five feet tall! It's a lot.

The only thing I haven't done religiously is drink eight glasses of water. I never did last time either, and still lost like crazy. I have been drinking lots of decaf herbal tea. Also, it's that time of the month for me.

I work out on an aerobics machine 1/2 hour most days.

What can I do? I am getting so discouraged. It's been about six days and not one pound has been shed.

I don't think I'm taking in more than six carbs a day. Most of that is from packets of Saccharin.

Thanks in advance for all of your help.

you may not be getting enough carbs. 6 is super low. atkins says we should get 20 a day during induction and most of it should be from veggies. how many calories are you getting a day? what are you eating? are you excercising?

I won't lose if I go below 15 carbs...so up the carb and make sure your fat % is higher than your protein (mine is at 60-70%). I restarted on 12/29 and lost 3 lbs (which, by the way, did not show up till day 5)

If I may offer some advice, I see a couple of problems/causes here.

If you're only getting 6 grams of carbs a day, that means you're not eating veggies. You. Must. Eat. Veggies.

Also, drink that water. Not only does it help you lose faster, but it helps flush toxins out of your body (including ketones) and helps your kidney deal with all that protein.

If exercising is new for you, that could also explain why you haven't lost any weight on the scale. Exercise builds muscle, which weighs more than fat...you know the drill! I stalled for several weeks when I started working out, but I was still losing inches. Are your clothes fitting more loosely?

Not to mention that it's TOM (time of the month) for you. That wreaks havoc with most women's weight loss. Don't sweat it, and stick with low-carbing for a few weeks. I promise you'll start to see results.

Artificial sweetners can also cause some people to stall. Get rid of the packets. Eat alot of veggies instead to get your carbs in. You are probably getting more carbs then that as eggs have some carbs as does cofee, cream, processed meats like bacon and so on.

Get an account at www.fitday.com it's a pain, but just do it for a few days and you may notice some patterns imerging.

It is very important also to drink tha twater. To little water will lead to dehydration,, esp if you are drinking teas. It will also lead to water retention.

What are you eating, exactly?
Please post a few example days worth of typical menus with amounts, so we have a better look at what you're eating.

Well the first thing you can do is start following the plan correctly, drink the water, eat 20 carbs aday with only 2 or so in the form of artifical sugar, the rest from veggies, dressings ect.

You may of lost good the first time by doing it slightly but the loss may have been from lack of food which would also only be temporary, til your body goes into starvation mode and won't lose.

If you have a copy of the latest book, maybe reread it, there is lots to remember.

Good Luck Kathy

Well, there are your answers right there.

It is iomportant to follow the diet to the letter in order for it to work properly and be safe.

So drink that water, eat those veggies and weigh yourself only 1 week AFTER your TOM.

I just want to chime in and say that if I don't drink the water (two quarts a day minimum), I don't lose. Simple as that for me, and maybe you too. It has to do with kidney and liver function.

Since it's your TOM and you're not drinking water, I can almost guarantee that you are retaining water like the Hoover Dam. The best way to get rid of retained water is to drink water. Really. For the first couple of days you will be peeing like mad, but it settles down after that.

I JUST went thru something like this! It was TOM plus I wasn't drinking enough water. Wasn't losing any weight. Well, TOM is gone and I've been making sure to drink 3 litres of water a day (close to a gallon) and voila--down 1.5 lbs from 2 days ago and I've been doing this for 5 weeks.

Drink the water, cut down on the sweetener, eat your veggies. Check out Fitday.com--it's free and it's a great way to count your carbs and cals.

Keep up the exercise no matter what!!!

Nicole
