if you follow the book, you can gradually add back in fruits like 1/2 c. strawberries or 1/4 c. blueberries and raspberries (around 5 carbs a serving)... once you get beyond OWL, you can start adding other fruits like grapes, cherries and grapefruit... see the book for more specifics...

good luck!

I usually have strawberries. They're in season now and so yummy. Other than strawberries, I eat peaches. Basically fruits that are low on the glycemic index. Good luck on your LC journey!!!

Blackberries, Strawberries, Raspberries, Blueberries.

Lemons & limes.

That's all I've added so far - and all I need, really, to be happy.

Hi there!

I share your enthusiasm for fruits in general. Matter of fact, one of the most trying things for me during Induction was waiting out the two weeks before finally reintroducing some fruits into my eating regimen.

Actually, I never made it for the two weeks. On day 10, I just had to have some fruits. LOL

Anyway, I added strawberries, blue berries, conteloupes and honey dews during the initial post-induction period. After that, I've gradually added apples, oranges, peaches, grapes, and even bananas with no ill-effects thus far.

Best of luck!

I had 2 strawberries once is about all so far for berries, though I did buy some blue berries last shopping trip. For me I've found I love unsweetened coconut. I used to not like it, but alot of recipes in the Atkin cookbooks had it so I bought some. I couldn't belive how good it tasted.

None, unless you count a very small amount of tomato sauce. I am still on induction and will stay on it for a few months.

Cool Watermelon

Does anyone know where watermelon fits in on the glycemic scale, or when it's appropriate to add in. It's so plentiful and cheap and good right now....

I am on OWL and I have been having strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, apples, grapes, watermelon, canteloupe, honey dew, grapefruit.

I would rather eat these things instead of anything else. I usually have a BIG salad with some type of meat.

Then I eat some type of fruit.

I've been having strawberries almost everyday for the past month and a half, plus I've recently added in canteloupe, honeydew melon, and grapes. No setbacks yet. I plan on adding in some nectarines and peaches soon - they're so ready for eating right now, and I can barely resist the aroma!

If memory serves, a friend showed me a list once and watermelon was very high up on the list. I do love watermelons too especially since they're so sweat and in season.

I think a cup here and there shouldn't derail your efforts. Why not, say, try a cup every other day for a week and see what happens? If you stall, you can always stop eating it.

From my experience, fruits in moderation has never stalled me what so ever. So, I think it depends on the individual more so than any "one size fits all" glove of truism.

Good luck.

I really don't think that fruits hurt that much either. After all, they are from the earth. I don't have problems with fruits as long as you eat them in moderation.

Now, the problem I have with watermelons are that on hot summer days, they're so refreshingly cool and good, that I'll tend to eat an 11 lb one during a single day.

Ah, it feels fine, but it sure doesn't seem to be within the spirit of "moderation" though. LOL

Frederick -

At least you get your water intake for the day!!!

You will be running for the potty after eating an 11lb watermelon!!
