well I have decided what I am giving up for lent. . .after a 2 month stall.. .I am giving up fake sugar in any form. At first I thought. . .maybe I will give up diet soda. . .which I know I shouldn't be drinking. But this will get alot of monkeys off my back as it were. Anyone want to join me. Starts Ash Wednesday which I think is Feb 25th. redawn

I've been thinking of giving something up for lent too. That's how I quit smoking a few years ago. I am still flirting with flour mostly in the form of an occaisional slice of bread so that is what I am giving up.

Lent isn't necessarily about giving something up, although my mother did give my father up one year! (OK, OK It was before they were married! She used it as a time to decide.) But can also be a time of doing, esp those things we would rather not do. So-o-o for Lent I shall walk daily. Not necessarily a long walk but something that will get me off my keister and OUT of the house other than going to a store. The issue is sacrifice, of getting out of your comfort zone, of getting your eyes off of you and on to God. To me a walk is a sacrifice when I am inside but once I get out there, barring horrendous weather, I wonder why I put up such a stink about it!!

I'm up for this one too - I like the "time of doing" theme. I am going to commit to sticking with and completing my training for my 10K walk. The big walk is on the Sunday after Easter! So my 40 days will be just a bit longer....

I've given up just about everything I ever loved so think giving myself back something is a positive step.

Oh and no pancakes for Shrove Tuesday.

yup our church has a wicked big pancake supper. . .luckily there will be bacon and ham too. . .so I won't starve! Last year was my first no pancake supper. . .it was my first year on Atkins. . .this is my second. And believe me giving up diet soda does qualify for something I would rather not do. . .<g> redawn

That's a great idea. I need to start thinking about that. And the second question (since I'm so horribly out of whack) is what can I do in the two weeks preceeding Lent?

Maybe just stretch it out? Make lent start a little earlier!

Conbom...thanks for the reminder about "doing" instead of just "giving something up"!

Maybe it's about time I started that exercise stuff I've heard so much about? I've been meaning to get into my step-aerobics again!

I know I can't do an everyday thing, but I'm going to commit to "20min/day for 40 days" which means I will do 13.33 hours of exercise during the 40 days of lent. (Hey, a little more can't hurt!)

And I'll be having my pork-rind pancakes for Shrove Tuesday....yum!

Pork Rind PANCAKES? Hmmmm...sounds interesting! By the way MSG alert! I found that one of the brands of PR that I USED to buy contain MSG! So if you are sensitive to MSG maybe you should check your PR's ingredients. Unfortunately, the store always has tons of these PRs and no more than 3 or four of the "clean" ones.

For lent I will give up men *wink*.... sorry, kidding. I think for me it will be a time to give up fake foods, and do a clean induction time all over. I will love myself and my body and look after it and bless god for it.
