Some people can successfully lose weight on LC even when drinking caffeinated coffee. But others can't. The caffeine causes some people to produce insulin, and even an insulin surge, and that leads to sharply lowered blood sugar and cravings for carbs.

So it's not so much the carb in the coffee itself, but the effect of the caffeine. Many people do better on decaf for that reason. You can start to cut down by mixing 'real' and decaf for a while, gradually increasing the decaf until that's all you use.

I've been drinking coffee since Day 1 and even during a 2 week stop (to see if it was the cause of my slow weight loss) I did not lose any faster so I continue to drink my 1-2 cups every morning. 2 cups of coffee have about 3 carbs.
