Question While on Induction must you count carbs in meat etc?

I am very confused. While you are on Induction, must you cound EVERY carb in EVERY thing you eat? It said on the atkin's website to eat liberally all meat, eggs, cheese etc. but it said nothing about counting THOSE carbs! I just figured you count the carbs of the extra things you would eat that arnt meat, eggs, etc. I have only been on induction for 3 days now but looking back on it I feel as if I've been doing it all wrong! HELP!

I was confused about this too -- it seems the advice in the book is different than the advice you get from this board. I wish Dr. Atkins had been a little more clear (and had provided some more sample menus) in exactly what he had in mind for people doing his diet.

If you look at the menu suggestions in the book, 2 cups of salad and 1 cup of cooked veggie (or 3 cups of salad) don't add up to anywhere near 20 grams of carb per day. That's because they assume that you will be eating other allowed foods that also contain carbs such as cream, eggs, cheese, etc...
The only zero carb foods are fats and whole unprocessed meats. Even shellfish such as lobster and shrimp have some carbs.
So...unless you are following the suggested menus for induction in the book exactly, yes you will need to count the carbs in all the foods you eat so that you stay at or near 20 grams of carb per day. Yes, it's a bit of work but many people find that using Fitday at www.fitday.com helps take a lot of the work out of counting and helps them keep on track. It's also useful for counting a lot more than carbs and is a great record to look back on if you experience a stall.

It's true all carbs must be counted! Meats, cheeses, veggies, whatever, you have to count the carbs if you want to loose that weight. It's not that hard to do, just write down each food you eat and the corresponding carbs it contains, and get your total. Most foods are marked, but be sure you're eating the "serving size" described. You can also find carb counters in The New Diet Revolution, here, Dr. Atkin's Website, Fit Day, etc... Good luck.
God Bless,

as far as I know.. meats have zero carbs... so there isn't anything there to count. Internal organs and shell fish are a different story. If anyone knows otherwise, please correct me!

I think restricting people to 20 carbs is mostly like training your body to shape up and eat less carbs.

But I myself just do 25carbs.... what does that mean?
well i eat 20 carbs for veggies + natural peanut butter
then it reports on fitday about 3-5 carbs for eggs cuz i eat alot of eggs hehe

I wouldn't worry too much about going over by 1g or 2... just be close to 20g as possible.

just remember low to no sugar...
only thing i eat that has very little sugar that im aware of is peanut butter...

Anyway Peace.... I'm a newbie only been on induction for 1.2 weeks and lost like 5lbs probably all water weight and stuff.
I was 160lbs in the morning now im around 155lbs now.

Many processed meats such as bacon and ham also have trace amounts of sugar as do many commercial salad dressings. I wouldn't fret about a gram or two of sugar as long as the carbs are being counted.
I know a lot of people don't like counting, but if you are going to lose weight you will have to count something, whether if be points, calories, grams of fat or grams of carb. There's just no way around it if you want to be successful at dropping the excess pounds.
