I was never diagnosed by a doctor but after reviewing the symptoms on the American Heart Association Web sight http://www.americanheart.org/presen...identifier=4756 I believe I was well on my way to having it. I had the first and third symptom and my blood pressure was very near high. I have never had my glucose tolerance checked so I may have had that also. This is the symptoms according to the AHA:
• central obesity (excessive fat tissue in the abdominal region)
• glucose intolerance
• hyperlipidemia (hi"per-lip"id-E'me-ah) -- primarily high triglycerides (tri-GLIS'er-?dz) and low HDL cholesterol
• high blood pressure
Since starting the Protein Power Plan over a year ago I have greatly lowered my Triglycerides(was over 200 now 88), raised my HDL(was 32 now 41) and my blood pressure is usually around 110/70. My waist has gone from 43in to 34in so I have taken care of all the symptoms by going low carb. I have also added resistance training to my fitness program which has also contributed to my improvement.
