When you hear 93% of Americans are metabolically unhealthy, it is from this large UNC Health study using the basic tests available from most health records.

Step one is to meet the basic metrics established by UNC for their study on metabolic syndrome. Are you in the 6.8% of Americans who are considered metabolically healthy?

1. fasting glucose less than 100 mg/dL
2. triglycerides less than 150 mg/dL
3. HDL is above 40 mg/dL for men or above 50 for women
4. Waist circumference is less than 40 inches for men and less than 35 inches for women
5. Blood pressure is less than 120/80 mmHG

Dr Means and her company would use stricter numbers (e.g. Trigs under 80 ) and have many other metrics you can follow, but these are what you can usually obtain free in an annual physical and indicate basic good health.
