Great explanation about discouraging the use of both caffeine and aspartame. For me, it was when I started to incorporate a lot of Diet Coke into my life (a few years ago) that I put on a good 25 pounds. In fact, I blame that beverage for triggering headaches, including frequent migraines, as well as causing voracious hunger which would result in college-style eating: ramen, bagels, chicken nuggets, pints of ice cream.
Anyway, one of the most positive changes I made when deciding to eat LC was to give up diet drinks. Although I admit to drinking them once in a while, it is definitely not the nasty habit it used to be.
