I like the sugar free gum idea. The sad fact is (and I've seen/heard this from kids walking away from a house after getting their treat), if you hand out anything other than candy, it's likely to end up pitched on your lawn or someone else's because they only want the sugar.

We haven't passed out anything on Halloween for probably 20 years, ever since I taught school. I decided I wasn't going to be one of those people sugaring up the kids and then sicking them on the poor teachers the next day.
