Question Need advice on resistance training

Hi folks,

I want to start doing some resistance training and I'm totally confused about where to start. I am in relatively good shape aerobically (especially considering my weight). I can easily swim a mile or walk four or five miles at a pace of 20 minutes per mile. I took a 2-1/2 hour hilly hike last weekend and wasn't at all tired afterwards. However, I have never done any type of weight/resistance training.

I am 45-years old, so I know I will have to start slowly. I've had back problems in the past, but my back hasn't bothered me in several months now since I've been losing weight. I've read a bunch of the BFL posts, but that is too much of a commitment for me. I really want to keep up my walking and swimming as my primary exercise because they help my moods as well as my health, and just add weights/resistance two or three times a week. I belong to a YMCA, but it's always easier for me to work out at home. Can anyone guide me to some posts or websites that will help me get started?
