Once upon a time in the olden pre LC days, I always added flour to roasts so they'd brown well. Now I don't even have any flour in the house, and my roasts are as yummy as ever. They are still pretty brown - possibly a little less brown, but still looking fine.
So I'd try it without the flour - it'll still be moist and flavoursome.
