Tomato is a fruit, both sweet and sour at the same time like an apple. So, there is nothing strange about that. Usually it's spice cake that is made from tomato soup, but a chocolate cake is not that far a stretch.

Now what's really strange is making cakes out of vegetables, like carrots or zucchini.
