There are a few who have been living low carb for decades (Dr. Richard Bernstein, Drs. Dan and Mary Eades, Dr. Atkins himself and I believe Dr. Schwarzbein) with nothing but good health to show for it, but they are so few that the sample would be considered statistically insignificant.
It would be very interesting to see the statistics on their patients who have stuck with a low carb lifestyle for several years, but I'm afraid that confidentiality laws would prohibit that or at least make it very difficult.
