I'm from Quebec and i'm in the same situation you are. There is no low carb products anywhere to be had (that I've seen anyway).

Doesn't matter much to me really. I consider them to be crutches, especially the sugar substitutes. I think we need to loose our sweet tooth, not maintain it with artifical chemicals.

When I want something sweet, I opt for a fruit. After you wean yourself off the really sweet stuff, a fruit tastes very sweet indeed.

If I must use a sweetener i use fructose, which is much lower on the glycemic scale than the regular sugars. But it's still a carb, so it teaches me that I must use it sparingly thus the weaning process continues.

I am really concerned by all this reliance people seem to have on artifical products. We all acknowledge that years of eating low-fat/high sugar snacks made us unhealthy. I just don't think that replacing these snacks with high-fat/fake sugar will make us much healthier in the long run.

One indulgence I am going to allow myself however is some low carb bread. I found a recipe on another site that is said to be excellent. It requires however some hard to find ingredients which i've ordered from my local natural food store. It doesn't sound all that bad really because it's made of natural food and also integrates some really healthy things like flax seeds
