Thanks for your reply! I have used computers for 25 years and have never been so confused as I am with this website. 
I did exactly what you said and STILL can not find anywhere to select/change my avatar. I went to "edit profile" and scrolled down but do not see anything that refers to an avatar. Guess I don't need one, right?
