One more point for low-carbing since low-carbing, and especially saturated fat ( ), raises HDL.
In a letter to my dad I said,
Quote:
Another thing that has been cropping up a lot is that lowering your cholesterol after about age 50 seems to be a negative thing to do instead of positive. However, considering that by that time a lot of the damage has already been done, and lowering your cholesterol with a low-fat diet (the most prevalent) also lowers HDL and raises triglycerides (a stronger indicator of heart problems), suggests to me again that low-carbing is a better way to lower your cholesterol since it raises your HDL while lowering triglycerides. It would be interesting to see a study comparing just that affect.

We were discussing whether or not cholesterol was a good indicator of heart health.
My dad and I get into some lively email conversations. And he had just read the top article of this thread.
Thanks, Voyager.
