Since I went through the whole 'rigamarole' of thyroid, I strongly urge you to do as much reading about it as you can before you set foot in your dr's office. It's very important to know which type of test he's going to order (a complete "thyroid panel" with antibody count is best) as a GP for instance might just order a TSH test which is not the only indicator of a thyroid defficiency or problem.

A good place to start is here: www.thyroid.about.com. This is the most complete website on the subject. You will find all kinds of articles and interviews with different medical authorities (any from alternative/complimentary medicine with advice on how to improve thyroid function) and links to other sites/sources. There is also a forum with boards that include all subjects related (and even some unrelated ones) to thyroid with a "welcome wagon" for newcomers.

Even if you happen to have thyroid problems, contrary to what traditional doctors would tell you, many are temporary and there is the possibility of improving your thyroid function with proper diet, supplements and lyfestyle changes.

Best wishes,
Raquel
