Dr. ATkins is right .. but it's all a matter of timing. His most recent book was published in December 2001 ... but the regulations for telling manufacturers to pre-subtract fiber isn't LAW yet, not in the US nor Canada. It probably will soon be, and trust me, I'll be posting here as soon as it happens.

Anyway .. right now, as of May 2002, it's still voluntary for manufacturers to pre-subtract fiber. So, not everyone is doing it, and you need to be a detective. Generally a good clue is if the fiber count is higher than the total carb count. Or if the count is too good to be true when you do subtract.
