Quite simple really. You can choose (in your profile) whether you wish to be "visible" or "invisible" while browsing the forum.

{..17 members and 15 guests, but there are only about 10 member-names listed...} I think the guests would probably not show anyhow but of the 17 members only 10 would have chosen to be visible.
