I just use my oven.

I cut the vension 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch thick. Coat each side with a mix of black/red pepper, salt, onion powder and garlic powder. I cover the bottom rack with either foil or a large pan (easier to clean up if it drips). I lay the strips over the other two racks, set the oven for 350, bake for 45 mins to kill any icky stuff, then lower it to 150 for 4-6 hours depending on how dry you like it.

I usually set this up to run over night.



Pretty easy and zero sugar. Plus you can make it the way you like it....you can adjust the seasonings to your own taste this way. Want a smokey flavor? Try adding some of that liquid smoke in a bottle. Instead of sprinkling it I would very very lightly brush it on.
