ccmarketer, the 10 - 12 guideline is the minimum you should be eating - not the maximum. This amount of calories satisfies your basal metabolic functions - which comprise 60-70% of the calories you need a day just to get by. So yes, it's very much OK to eat more than that - in most cases it's better if you do. 10 - 12 times is just to ensure your body doesnt think it's being starved.

The bulk of your calories will come from fat - usually around 70% of your intake. This is normal. Just ensure that you are getting enough protein daily. Women need a minimum 60g a day - a good way to figure our what you require is to take your LBM (lean body mass; your weight minus the fat on your body) and multiply it by .6. If you don't have a formula for figuring out LBM just take your weight and multiply it by .4 and be sure you eat that much protein daily. And of course, make sure you're drinking all your water (at the very least, 64 oz a day + 8 oz for every 25 lbs of fat you want to lose)
