I've never heard it called a myth.
I wonder about the change over from the emphsis on aerobic exercise to strength training. When I was young the only exercises were aerobic and you "carbed up" to run a race or do a aerobic routine.
Now the emphasis is on building muscle mass and raising metabolism. I think this is an improvement.
