I would strongly suggest you postpone any gym workouts until your symptoms have subsided.
Do you see a physiotherapist?
If not, I would see one as soon as possible. They don't only help relieve your pain, but can also give you specific exercises for your particular problem.
I'm presuming (and hoping) that by now you're feeling great again.
