That's a great article, but I think we, not the doctor, should be the 'Joe Businessman' used in this analogy. If you have a condition or illness, YOU should be the one googling around for possible plans of action, not your doctor. Your doctor is just a consultant - s/he isn't responsible for the care of your body, you are. Doctors are trained to treat symptoms. S/he isn't very well trained in nutrition, exercise physiology, or other fields that offer alternative treatment plans. If you don't care enough to do a bit of homework, you could end up with a crappy car... or a sick body.

(Can you tell I'm cynical?)

...but yes, I DO think it's sad that you can't trust your doctor when s/he says, "this drug is perfectly safe" or "don't do that diet, it's dangerous." And I guess that was the point that was being made here.
