I chew fairly often and haven't felt like it's hurt anything. In fact, if I'm craving something sweet, a stick of SF gum usually takes the edge off. They do make some gums with sucralose, which really excited me. Orbit gum has Splenda (along with sorbitol, malitol, yada yada yada), but only certain flavors.
