Default Vitamin absorption

Overall, the body does not absorb minerals well. Additionally, minerals compete with one another for absorption. Variations in mineral absorption also exists between the sexes. For instance, males absorb calcium better than females, yet total calcium absorption rarely exceeds 35% of the amount ingested. Although dietary fiber negatively impacts absorption of certain minerals (iron, calcium, magnesium and zinc), consuming 20-30 grams of fiber daily does not significantly interfere with absorption. In general, the insoluble fiber is more likely to interfere with mineral absorption than soluble fiber.
