Well, if you're over 40, in Ontario ... routine blood panel would be
  • random blood sugar
    kidney function - electrolytes (sodium, potassium, bicarb, chloride), urea and creatinine
    cholesterol and triglycerides
    complete blood count -- hemoglobin, white cells, hematocrit
    possibly thyroid TSH, definitely should be done for perimenopause female ... you can ask for it (since they have to poke you anyway ) They'll be unlikely to do more thyroid investigation such as free T4 or T3 unless you are symptomatic, or the routine TSH comes back abnormal.
Depending on your health history, your dr. may also order liver function such as clotting time and enzyme levels.

Sounds like a lot, but remember, you only need to be poked once.
