This is useful to know .... there's some suggestion that when melatonin levels rise in the evening due to the early dark hours, it can lead to increased incidence of some eating disorders, including Compulsive Overeating, and Nighttime Overeating. I recall reading some research is being done in this area using bright light therapy -- a lightbox -- late in the afternoon, to delay the night-time rise in melatonin, thus reducing the the cravings and urges to binge at night.
