Potato--If your son likes it, and you can get him to eat it--you're doing great!!! Good for you! Certainly better than a sugary bowl of Fruity Pebbles (always my kid's favorite--though I never could understand it--how can cereal leave a greasy taste and feel in a person's mouth?)...
I wonder what that funky aftertaste is (in the lc cereals)? I really noticed it when I tried the Atkin's cereal. Gave the rest of that box away! I noticed it (although not as strongly) in the Special K, too--as well as in a box of something called "Hi-Lo" that I tried. Must have something to do with the sweetener they use for cereal, because I've never noticed it in any other lc product. Maybe it's just me and my weird and kind of warped taste buds...
