Default Low Carb Bad Deals

LOW CARB FOOD HAS INVADED THE GROCERY STORE.

BUT LOW CARB CAN COME WITH A HIGH PRICE.

SO BEWARE: YOU MAY END UP SLIMMING YOUR WALLET MORE THAN YOUR WAISTLINE!

"They're low carb, they look great, what about the price? They're much higher!"

THATS WHAT A LOT OF EATERS ARE FINDING AS THEY SWITCH TO LOW CARB DIETS: HIGHER PRICE TAGS!

NUTRITIONIST LAUREN NIEMES TOOK ME GROCERY SHOPPING.

WE FOUND A GREAT LOW CARB SELECTION ... UNTIL WE SAW THE PRICE TAG.

"What do you think about when it comes to paying 5 dollars a box for Pasta? Thats ridiculous!"

"This is official Atkins bread: what the first thing that strikes you about it? The price! It's 4.99 for a loaf of bread!"

BUT LAUREN LETS US IN ON A SECRET: MOST "LITE" BREAD IS LOW CARB TOO: THEY JUST DONT ANNOUNCE IT.

EXAMPLE: THIS WONDER LITE BREAD: LOW CAL, LOW CARB, AND LOW PRICE TAG.

"Its less than half the price!"

WHEN IT COMES TO PASTA,

LAUREN SAYS WATCH OUT FOR THE LOW CARB AISLE: THAT'S WHERE YOU'LL FIND THOSE 5 DOLLAR BOXES OF NOODLES.

RATHER, SHE SUGGESTS, CHECK THE REGULAR ITALIAN SECTION .....

"What do we have here?"

...WHERE BIG PASTA MAKERS ARE CUTTING CARBS.

AT A BUCK 99 A BOX, MUELLERS LOW CARB PASTA IS NOT A BAD DEAL...BUT CHECK THE SMALLER SIZE: ITS NOT A GREAT DEAL EITHER.

"This reduced carb pasta is 1.99 for the box, thats about 16 cents per serving.

"On the regular pasta, we have 1.09 for a 16 ounce box, and our price per servicing goes down to 6 cents."

THE LOW CARB PASTA IS STILL ALMOST 3 TIMES THE PRICE, FOR THE SAME BRAND!

SO LAUREN HAS A CHEAPER SOLUTION.

"You can buy regular pasta and low carb it yourself, by just moderating your eating size. Eat less? Yes!"

SHE ALSO SAYS WATCH OUT FOR LOW CARB VERSIONS OF PRODUCTS THAT ARE ALREADY LOW CARB...LIKE SALAD DRESSING.

"There many only be 1 or 2 grams of carbs in regular salad dressing, so to market these as low carb is really buying into the craze."

THEN COME ALL THOSE NEW SWEET TREATS SOLD AS LOW CARB: LIKE CANDY, AND ENTENMANN'S "CARB COUNTING" POUND CAKE.

LOW CARBS, LAUREN SAYS, BUT STILL PLENTY OF CALORIES.

EAT A LOT OF LOW CARB SWEETS, LAUREN SAYS, AND YOU'LL PAY MORE, BUT MAY NOT SEE ANY BENEFIT.

"Whats gonna happen to my budget? its probably gonna go up. and it may not help you if your goal is losing weight."

MEANTIME, NATIONAL SUPERMARKET GURU PHIL LEMPERT, WHO TRACKS FOOD PRICES FOR A-C NEILSEN,

SAYS THE AVERAGE PERSON SPENDS 59 DOLLARS A WEEK FOR FOOD.

ON THE LOW CARB SOUTH BEACH DIET, YOU'LL PAY 91 DOLLARS...AND ON THE ATKINS DIET, ALMOST 100 BUCKS A WEEK!

SO COUNT YOUR PENNIES AND YOU COUNT YOUR CARBS, SO YOU DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.
