It seems to me that all this talk of the glycemic index/load is just a smokescreen being used by the low-fat cadre to push low-carb and still bash Atkins and low-carbing.

GI/L is low carb if you do it right. It's also more confusing and still gives people license to overeat carbs as long as they are low GI/L in my opinion.

I would much rather count carbs and stick with non-starchy veges, diary, meats and fats while I'm losing weight and later the occassional higher-density carb foods when I'm maintaining my weight. It's a lot simpler.
