I used to starve myself when I was younger. No, I wasn't anorexic, but, I'd occasionally skip meals and snacks for a few days if I wanted to fit into a pair of tight jeans for a weekend party...

Well, I don't do that anymore. My diet now is very healthy and I weight train, walk and yoga. But, (I guess this a question for a bio-chemist), if I skip a meal and feel hunger pangs...does my body burn excess fat for energy at that moment when there is no food in my stomach?
... I had to skip lunch for an important meeting today, and I thought about that as my stomach growled during a presentation! (I thought: hey, body: burn some of that fat on my stomach instead!)
