If these kids re eating the junk that is considered "normal" I'd be surprised if they didn't have arteries like old men! All those transfats! All those carbs! And none of the nutrition. Kids today are fed french fries before they get their first tooth! They're given candy and mostly "fake" foods daily.

"U.S. researchers studied nearly 900 adolescents aged 11 to 15. They found that normal-weight children ate more high-fibre foods such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables than kids who were either at risk of obesity, or who were already overweight. The study is published in the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine."

I'd like to see a meal by meal comparison. I'd be willing to bet that these kids that are so obese rarely, if ever, have a "real" meal with thier family. Cereal and juice for breakfast....or even pop-tarts, cereal bars, etc. Sandwich with chips, cookies, etc for lunch....and fast food for supper. It's a wonder these kids aren't malnourished!

As for activity, yes, most kids do need to move more. When my kids were little I'd kick them out of the house on nice days so they had no choice but to be more active.

Too many parents let the TV and video games be a babysitter. Too many schools have cut gym classes. Too many parents are afraid to say no to their kids! Until these three things (at least) are changed, these kids don't stand a snowball's chance in hell! They'll grow up to be obese adults and they'll be treated for diabetes and heart disease at even younger ages.

Just my 2 cents.
