You guys might want to consider mentioning this to your doctor next time you're there, at least if you have any other stomach problems. You could be producing too much stomach acid. Apparently, this can wake you up in the night with what feels like raging hunger - it's actually excess acid. It's not necessarily painful.

Nutty, it's not usually an issue for people who aren't struggling with their weight, but stopping eating early in the evening helps many people lose weight.
