dug,
I have the same rule as you have. If during my 3+ miles runs I have to breath 2-2 it is a sure sign for me, that I have to slow down otherwise side stiches will kill me. According my speedwork/race experience I can handle 2-2 (shallow breathing) for 2-3 miles, but then stiches stiches strike:-(
