Jennifer isolated herself in her dorm room and subsisted primarily on junk food: gas station coffee with Irish Delight creamers, Hershey's chocolate bars from the campus vending machines. "It was a vicious cycle," she says. "Because the more I gained weight, the more I stayed home."

These aren't people who built up a life time worth of insulin resistance. They don't have a malfunctioning thyroid. They are teens. They eat badly and constantly. THey have a dysfunctional relationship with food. The solution seems too simple. In the words of Dr Phil. Well, stop eating junk food.

Instead they get an operation which butchers their digestive system and makes them completely unable to eat normally again.

Seems to me there is should be some middle ground somewhere.

Seems to me $25,000 would buy you a lot of conventional treatement; conselling, nutrition and trainer.
