Much sympathy for the diverticulitis flare!
Been there done that! I find I do best if I have nothing but water for at least the first 24 hours. Cuts the pain down much more quickly than otherwise.
I then tend to introduce foods that are low in fat as well as fibre. After my 24 hours (or more, depends on how the tum is doing) of water, I add solids, usually things like small serves of steamed chicken breast or canned tuna with low fibre vegies like a bit of lettuce. The only reason I go for low fat at this point is because it's all my particular tum wants.
We are all different of course, so what helps me may not necessarily help you. So if creamy things don't increase your pain, by all means have them.
